Midwest Flowering Deciduous ShrubsDeciduous plants lose their leaves at the end of the growing season. Midwest deciduous flowering shrubs can have a variety of shapes: columnar, pyramidal, round, vase, weeping, and upright. These plants have multiple stems arising from a common crown at ground level or are single-stemmed that begin branching at a point near the ground. Recommended for the Midwest for the seasonal ornamental value of its distinct flowers and year round aesthetics. Midwest Flowering TreesMidwest flowering trees are native species of medium scale providing intense seasonal interest with wide variety of showy and fragrant flowers. In the landscape these species provide framing, shade, and background. Choosing smaller, focal trees near parking areas, walks, patios, and buildings provide a transition zone into areas planted with large trees or openings into expansive spaces. Midwest Shade TreesMidwest shade trees are native species with mature heights ranging between 30 to greater than 60 feet. Many types of trees in the Midwest require full sun or only a small portion of shade in order to survive. These hardy and low maintenance trees emerge as densely layered cultural symbols offering not only welcomed shade, but beauty, sense of security and comfort for all to enjoy. Evergreen ShrubsEvergreen shrubs are versatile plants that have leaves or needles throughout all seasons. They provide year-round beauty and attractiveness to all landscapes. Evergreen shrubs are excellent foundation plants that create solid backdrops and help define spaces. There are a wide range of Evergreen shrubs including; sun-loving, shade-loving, and flowering types. Evergreen shrubs are adaptable and can be planted in a variety of soil types. Evergreen TreesEvergreen trees provide wonderful color in a variety of landscape settings. The term “evergreen” refers to trees that normally retain most of their foliage (needles) throughout the winter. The ability to retain needles throughout the winter makes them especially good trees for maintaining year-round landscape color in cold-weather climates. Evergreen trees are versatile and can be used as solitary or grouped specimens, hedges, natural privacy screens, or backdrops for smaller flowering plants. They are specifically planted in the path of prevailing winds and used as a windbreak to deflect or intercept winds. Kendall Hill Nursery has a variety of Evergreen trees suitable for numerous climates and growing zones. Large Shade TreesLarge shade trees, like the name implies, are great at providing shade. This is useful for reducing the heating and cooling costs of buildings. Two of the direct benefits of large shade trees are that they effectively reduce the heat being reflected off of asphalt and also convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. Because of these benefits, large shade trees are often used by landscape designers, architects, and builders. The lasting beauty, strength, and potential for long life make large shade trees a great addition to any area. Kendall Hill Nursery has several species of large shade trees available. Native TreesNative trees are any species of tree that naturally grow in a particular area. Native trees do a better job of preserving the natural habitats of native birds and insects than naturalized plants which are any plant that has been introduced to an area by people. Planting native trees is an excellent way to re-establish natural diversity and to protect our regional landscapes. Kendall Hill Nursery has native trees for many areas across the United States. |
