American Arborvitae
Kendall Hill Nursery grows and sells American Arborvitae also known as the Thuja Occidentalis. The American Arborvitae is used, like other evergreens, to create color year-round color. It is a small evergreen that reaches a height of 12 to 15 feet tall at full maturity. The American Arborvitae trunk ranges proportionally with the tree’s height and the tree appears pyramidal in shape. It is an attractive evergreen with a red-brown bark that peels in thin and narrow strips. The tree has cones that are slender and range in color from a light yellowish green to brown when fully ripe. It maintains its color year round and is commonly used as an ornamental tree. The American Mission Arborvitae is often used as a hedge or privacy screen as it maintains its foliage throughout the winter season. This evergreen can be successfully grown from Zones 3 to 8. The American Arborvitae does not bloom and prefers to be planted in sun lit areas.
