River Birch
Kendall Hill Nursery grows and offers the River Birch, or Betula Nigra. The River Birch is known for its distinctive multi-colored bark. The bark ranges from scaly to smooth and creamy and exfoliates in curly paper-thin sheets. It maintains interesting color year round with its unique cinnamon-colored bark and leaves that range from medium green in the spring and summer to yellow in the fall. The River Birch twigs are thin and create a visual flow from the multi-colored trunk. Even though it prefers wet ground it will survive dry periods. A mature River Birch will reach a height from 40’ to 70’s with a 40’ to 60’ spread and is an excellent shade tree. It is versatile enough to survive in Zones 4-9.
