Hawthorns

HawthornKendall Hill Nursery grows and sells Hawthorn trees which are also known as Crataegus phanopyrums. Hawthorns are small flowering trees with attractive white flowers which are produced from the axils of the leaves. The flowers begin to start their color show in early June. Hawthorn trees reddish purple-leaves turn dark green, then orange, deep red, or purple. The species is native to Illinois and other ares of the eastern United States. At full maturity, Hawthorns reach 25’ to 30’ and have a spread of 25’. The Hawthorn can be grown in zones 4 to 7 and prefers full to partial sun. It does well from moist to dry conditions, and soil containing loam, clay loam, or rocky material and is pH adaptable.
