Red Oak

Kendall Hill Nursery grows and sells Red Oak trees also known as Quercus Rubra. The Red Oak is a magnificent tree with a life span of hundreds of years. It has stout branches that grow at right angles to the step, spreading into a wide and uniform crown. Under optimal conditions Red Oaks are fast growing. Although it prefers fresh sites with fine, deep soils that have a loam or silt-loam texture, porous, sandy or gravelly soils, with good drainage, are also suitable. Red Oaks have a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali, and can tolerate seedlings, but as they reach their second or third year they begin to need sunlight for optimal growth. These trees are basically free of insect and disease problems.
